FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Ironbound section of Newark, 5 blocks on Ferry Street, was the site of the very successful 18th Brazil Day in Newark, produced by the Brazilian American United Association (BAUA) who is a non-profit group that provides help and support and advice to the largest concentration of Brazilian immigrants in the Newark's metropolitan area with medical, psychological, legal, English and computer classes as well as group insurance to their members and families.

Founded in 1990, BAUA has strived to maintain itself with donations and fund-raisers. Through the guidance of their board of directors and advisors, the association maintains close ties with Newark's City Hall, and has
gained strong support from councilman Augusto Amador, as well as Mayor Cory Booker.

At this 18th Brazilian Day in Newark, there was Brazilian music in 2 stages, with local  bands, as well as many DJ's, MCs' and musical guests. Brazilians are always happy to share with everyone in the community this great occasion with music, dance and art. This year's 2 day event according to Newark's Police Dept., was attended by over 150,000 people, even with the rainy sunday weather.

BAUA dedicated their event this year to the immigrant communities from the Ironbound section of Newark, historically known as an immigrant's first point of entry, this section of the town is now a thriving community and neighborhood, filled with world-class restaurants, wine bars, cafes and night-clubs.  Newark's Brazilian, Portuguese and Latin-American population has contributed immensely to the melting-pot culture and growing economy of the region for a few decades and is now a vital part of the social-economic structure that makes America this  great nation.

Since 1992, this popular event is successfully developed attracting hundreds of thousands of people to the streets. This cultural affair is nothing more, nothing less, than the voice of a nation that exalts the joy of living. This culture creates 'products for people and for emerging markets with purchasing power.  The production of an event  covers, in addition, a public and commercial dimension, scale marketing, entrepreneurial skills: a productive chain that creates and strengthens the economy.   This tradition of popular festivals not only attracts the attention of Brazilians, but of several other groups.

BAUA wishes to thank all the supporters, the Latin communities,  local businesses, sponsors, vendors, volunteers and city officials, from the bottom of their hearts.  In the words of BAUA's president, Mrs Umbelina Santos, their organization has increased their respect, acceptance, representativeness and stability to really be able to continue the ideals of their founders, and serve the community.
