The answer is YES! His brother and agent Assis came to an agreement with AC Milan Board of Directors and the club agreed to release the player. Good news for Gremio, Palmeiras and Flamengo, the mentioned Brazilian clubs already made official offers for the player and the fans can't wait for Ronaldinho to decide where to play! In favor of Gremio: Porto Alegre is Ronaldinho's hometown and where the player started. In favor of Palmeiras: Manager Felipao - Both were 2002 World Cup Champions. In favor of Flamengo: Well, there's nothing much going for Flamengo!
The fact is, he's not planning on staying in Europe for the current Season, speaking of which, he did not accept a multimillion-dollar deal from modest Premier League Blackburn. It wouldn't be the first time we have World Class players returning to Brazil after a period in Europe, in the past we had players such as: Romario, Falcao, Rivaldo and Zico. Recently we saw players such as Adriano, Ronaldo and Robinho playing the “Brasileirão”.
Brazilian media and soccer lovers are extremely excited with his return regardless of the team. At one point he was considered the world's best player and I couldn't agree more. Many still believe Ronaldinho can still pull a rabbit out of the hat and guide a team to glory! One thing is for sure, the club signing the player should expect a considerable increase in revenues, the sign of Ronaldinho will definitely boost the club finances... I call it a win-win situation!
Congratulations NY Red Bulls!
NY Red Bulls 3 x 1 Santos FC
The NY Red Bulls is ready for the 2010 season! The team proved to be better than expected, the victory against Santos FC proved that the team has great potential.
I was there and I was amazed to see how the squad behaved tactically. The skilled Santos FC didn’t have many chances to score thanks to the Bulls defense (Miller, Ream, Hall and of course, Petke). If the New York team keeps playing at this level we should see great things happening this season.
After the game I interviewed Santos FC Assistant Coach Marcelo Martellote (Santos Head Coach Dorival Junior ran to the airport not returning to the second-half).
Martellote mentioned how hard it is to play against American teams. At one point he mentioned the US 1994 World Cup Team, in his view that particular team was the beginning of soccer in America. “After 1994 the world started to pay more attention and respect the US as far as soccer is concerned” said Martellote.
It was a pleasant night, the Bulls put up a great show! Fireworks, Nascar Racing Car, Olympic Champ and more…. I loved it!
Santos FC and Brazil U18 National Team right-winger Crystian Carvalho talked to Jornal.us before the match against the NY Red Bulls. The player mentioned a couple of differences between soccer in Brazil and in the US; “The American players are usually strong and tall, their running game is very good” said Crystian. Crystian also cited that the players are excited about the game and that the team will take the match very seriously!
Unfortunately Robinho won’t play, he’s under intensive care by the Santos medical department and should be back within ten days, bad news for the soccer fans who were expecting to see the Brazilian star.
Santos Press-Officer Arnaldo Hase thanked the NY Red Bull directors for the reception the club received and for the way they handled the negotiations anticipating the match.
When asked; how it feels to be part of this unique event, Hase responded: “It’s not the first time Santos is invited to inaugurate a stadium, recently we played Santos Laguna (MEX) at their Inauguration” “I can assure you we are very proud to be here”.
Lets hope for the best and wish both Santos FC and the NY Red Bulls a fantastic season, with many goals… (In their favor of course!!)
Harrison, March 16, 2010. The New York Red Bulls opened their doors to the media at a very pleasant press conference where it was discussed topics regarding the 2010 Season, the Red Bull Arena Media Day.
Red Bull players and coaching staff answered a variety of questions regarding the upcoming season. One thing is for sure; we can all expect a great season.
“The Stage is Set” and the team is highly motivated! Player Carlos Mendes told us that it’s a great honor to play against Santos FC at the “Inauguration Game” and that the team is working hard to meet expectations throughout the season.
At one time during the interview to Brazilian channel VejaTV, Carlos Mendes invited “In Portuguese” the Portuguese-Speaking community residing in the Ironbound section of Newark to attend the games. ((Fans can literally walk from the Ironbound section of Newark to the Arena)).
After feeling the vibe from the players and talking to people directly connected with the Bulls it’s clear to me that with the signing of experienced coach Hans Backe the team will definitely perform better than last year. Investments were made, new players acquired, and of course, a new fan-base was formed.
I really believe the team has what it takes to advance to the playoffs! Wouldn’t be so optimistic to place the squad as a challenger for the title, not yet at least, but would definitely say the team has walked a long way and has by far the best infrastructure in MLS.
